@eat_kaloFollow along on InstagramRecovery isn't a stimulant problem. It's a refuelling problem — and dates and milk solve it the way people have solved it around the Mediterranean for a very long time.
Training breaks muscle down; protein is what rebuilds it. Ultra-filtered milk gives Kalo 12 grams per bottle, complete and easy to drink when you don't feel like eating. It's the same reason chocolate milk became a locker-room staple — we just took the refined sugar out of it.
Hard work empties your glycogen stores, and protein alone won't put it back. Medjool dates bring naturally occurring carbohydrate along with potassium and fibre, so the sweetness in every bottle comes from fruit rather than from a syrup added afterwards.
A pinch of sea salt goes into every batch. It's a small thing, and it's also the difference between a drink that tastes flat after a workout and one you actually want to finish.
No gums, no thickeners, no preservatives, no sweeteners. Five ingredients means separation is normal — give the bottle a shake and keep it cold. That's the whole instruction manual.
Same base, same numbers. Pick by taste, not by function.
Warm, balanced, comforting.
Rich, indulgent, refined.
Nutty, creamy, distinctive.
Ancient ingredients. Modern performance.
Kalo started with a plain observation: the recovery aisle is full of things engineered in a lab to imitate food, while the Mediterranean has been recovering on dates and milk for thousands of years. Farmers ate dates before a day in the field. Athletes drank milk after one. Neither of them needed a label with twenty-two ingredients on it.
So we made the drink that was already there. Ultra-filtered milk for protein, Medjool dates for carbohydrate and sweetness, a little cinnamon or cacao or tahini for the part that makes you want a second bottle. We left out everything that was only there to extend shelf life.
It is not an energy drink. There's no caffeine in it and it isn't trying to wake you up. Kalo is for the twenty minutes after you put the weight down — the window where what you drink decides how the next session goes.
We're a small team, we're just getting started, and we'd rather build this with the people who'll actually drink it. Everything we make gets tested by people who train first, and everyone on the list hears about it before anyone else does.
